hi,
i just wrote a script for fcp that performs a pretty decent film look effect on video footage. not very good for a subtle 35 mm effect yet, but i thought i'd show you how it looks on the super 8 preset.
i did some color correction to this still, but the deinterlacing, stairstep reducing, film curves adjustments and grain simulation is done by the plugin. it's based on something i wrote for premiere a long time ago in c++, and i'm pretty impressed with how powerful fxscript in fcp really is. anyway, check out the before and after: http://www.mattias.nu/filmlook.html
tell me what you think. i will release the plugin for free when it's finished, and a beta will show up here pretty soon.
coolness,
matt
ps. the dutch angle is due to sloppy hand holding of the video camera and not intentional at all. :-)

Actually, I vote for it's too difficult to tell from a still shot versus an actual moving image.
Also, the face is darker (rather than the background) in the "Super-8" look, and some of the warmth has been take out of the "Super-8" look which I don't agree with.
The digital looks really good.

i agree. i don't think the footage looks "better" with the filter applied, just more film like. keep in mind that the curves can be adjusted in different ways, and all settings can be tweaked towards a more subtle mode. i was just trying to create the classic contrasty desaturated vnf look. a lot of different settings are possible. if you like the colors and contrast of your original you can keep it. the anti alias and grain filters will still work. anyway, thanks a lot for the feedback.

Ah, but can you make Super-8 film look like digital.
